I watched Eva much later than a lot of people and thought her and Ritsuko were much more interesting characters than Rei and Asuka were, and Asuka in particular I thought was really annoying and changed the tone of the show for the worse overall. Wonder what I would've thought if I watched it as a teenager like almost everyone else did, I understand that this is a very "you had to be there at the time to fully appreciate it's impact" type of show.
