He initially gave his staff freedom over the most lucrative property Khara had access to so the studio could find it's footing
But then, after 2.22 he couldn't handle his pet therapy project being handled by other people, so he stepped in to intervene, suddenly ruling over the rebuilds with an iron fist
This was a terrible move because Anno himself had no clue what he even wanted to do with the rebuilds, leading to 3.33 being re-re-rewritten over and over for years, leading to all the staff being burnt out on it and the movie being a total mess
Then he FINALLY figured out what he wanted to say with the movies (which was a masturbatory tale about his own personal relationship with evangelion and how he wants to move on from it), but it was in total conflict with the story Tsurumaki and co. had been setting up for two movies, which led to the conclusion feeling extremely hamfisted and unearned

but revisiting the same thing 10+ years later and warping the story into literally having the characters reference the original show and fight on an evangelion movie set with shitty cgi is just embarrassing, every point he ever needed to make was already said in the original and in EoE
I understand as an artist pouring everything into something makes it basically impossible to escape from but trying to come back and tinker with it just ruins everything for everybody

I dont think she had a single win that didnt involve being saved, assisted or help.
The first angel she fights, shinji is helping her control the eva and misato assist with the plan and weapons to kill it, asuka is the one who helped, misato kill that fucker.
Magma drive episode: asuka needed to be saved by shinji, if he doesnt show up with the knife or to save asuka from falling that would be her end.
All the other angels is either rei/shinji/eva 1 taking care of the problem and asuka either getting one shotted or humillated.
There is a reason this got to her ego, she never defeated the MP units, they were playing with their food the whole time.
Compare that to rei and shinji records, where rei speared the 15th angel and selfdestruct against the 16th.
Shinji took down the 4th angel, 5th angel and tabris.

I dont see asuka beating ramiel by herself in a million years, kaworu or full awakened rei? Yeah sure they could do it, maybe shinji at the end of the series, but asuka by herself couldnt touch the 5th angel, she could also do it the operation with rei, she has good aim.
Also i do believe shinji could have beaten bardiel if he wanted to, he was punching zeruel around by himself, its clearly shown shinji is the strongest pilot in nerv, but bardiel had toji as hostage and eva 1 battery ran out with zaruel.
