Are you or were you a member of an Anime Club?

What did you watch and what did you guys do?

>Are you or were you a member of an Anime Club?
Yep, back in college
>What did you watch
This was years ago, so AMVs, whatever bootleg DVDs / torrents we could get our hands on, that sort of thing
>what did you guys do?
Argue about Asuka vs. Rei, argue about where we should go drinking, argue about the fact that most of us ended up sleeping with the two girls who'd joined the club

By the time I got into my college, its anime club had long since disbanded and I wasn't going to attempt to revitalize it.
In high school though, there was a technical anime club- the "CS Club", basically just a lunch gathering in the CS class where we'd hang out. Fucking sucked shit.
Here's your club members:
>A man who I am still convinced was an actual pedophile, could sing Renai Circulation but had no idea what show it was from, only anime I ever saw him talk about was Konosuba, and was 100% interested in having sex with his cat
>An unironic, honest to god incel who everyone thought was going to shoot up the school
>A mangafag, the obnoxious type who only ever talks about how much he loves "art" (read lowbrow softcore pornography) and how "anime is so much worse guys, did you know" every goddamn day
The rest were all normalfags who just went there to have somewhere to eat lunch.

The only anime fan I ever felt kinship for in a school setting was this one fat guy who really liked Grisaia and read it in class, uncensored. I first discovered him in 2018 back in Year 11 when he started loudly talking about the rape scene in Goblin Slayer.

I attended the first meeting of an anime club in high school. I did not return because i basically experienced this feeling.

Yeah in high school for a year. But we didn't even have an official club. Not that we really cared or wanted it to be recoginized by the school. But the 5 or 6 of us met for a couple hours Tuesdays and Thursdays in a small trailer. The teacher didn't give a fuck since he stayed late every day grading papers or let his students take makeup exams. I'd bring in a flashdrive with movies and project it onto the whiteboard. It was literally just watching anime movies and talking about chapter releases or shit like that. Really wasn't anything to it, sometimes we'd walk up to the gas station and buy snacks to bring back. It was fun.

In highschool, yeah. I found some friends who played Yu-Gi-Oh and League of Legends. We also watched sports anime together and would play stuff like Tennis or Basketball. During club we'd watch anime or plan out what we're going to do at anime conventions.

No but pretty much everyone in my friend group during the end of high school read Berserk and watched JoJo

Briefly in high school. Pretty much just watched anime together during lunch/recess in a dark classroom and laughed at funny parts. They were more openly vulgar than me and picked Goldenboy. Didn't seem like good friends to have in real life, so I dropped out.

The fantasy club was more girl-led and tried to get a tabletop RPG going for a while, but I think it never got off the ground. Don't remember if I dropped out, or if the leadership got too busy to keep the club going.

For a short time in high school. The fujoshits who ran it didn't feel comfortable with piracy and would spend any money the club got on single manga volumes to pass around for the roughly 30 people who were in it to read and then discuss. Nothing else happened for 3 months so I stopped going.

>Yu-Gi-Oh
I came across a little group of friends who played that in college, and joined for a while. It was fun for me, but they kinda hated my poorfag stall deck and started noping out sometimes if time was short.

Briefly in college. It was a pretty miserable experience. It was every thing you'd expect to go wrong in a bad anime club. Members with very little exposure to anything outside of shonen shit in positions of power and really flexing it whenever anyone so much as even suggested watching some other OVA or series. People acting early 2000s wacky and LOL random and a couple of girl "geeks" getting the retards to dance in their hands.

I actually didn't have my own cards, but I'd watch along and occasionally borrow their other decks to play. It was really fun.

It was based. Watched stuff weekly in the common room of the president's dorm and finished several entire series, best one being Ebichu, and the odd movie. One year before Christmas break we picked Tokyo Godfathers and a lot of people cried by the end. The kitchen area was right off that room so we'd cook food that was in the stuff we watched sometimes, or just make instant ramen or microwave edamame.

We had a group of early weebs try to get an anime club going once. Principal didn't go for it. because obviously they weren't gonna pay so retards could watch them violent flashy cartoons. Then one got the bright idea to try and pitch it as a "Japanese/Asian cultural and historical study group." They though because a few of the teachers were Asian they could sneak it by them. Well they got their club but the assigned teacher took it very seriously and very literally. It ended up actually being pretty interesting stuff.

Anime is one of those hobbies that I found I like better when I do it alone. I liked talking about episodes and stuff but it's not really a "group" activity.

yes, it's called /a/.
and no, we don't watch anime.

No, it was a cat. He probably wanted to fuck catgirls too, but he was a known furry, and if I remembered his name I could probably find an incident involving him and a dead animal.

No, my schools never had one. Apart from a middle school movie club which showed Ponyo once, I didn’t start watching anime properly until my second year of university, and I had almost completely isolated myself at that point so I didn’t discuss it with anyone.

Anime Club, to this day, has been the best days of my life. We had a variety of people ranging from your local lolicon (who eventually went to federal prison) to your artist alley sellers. It was a great time. I always put on Genshiken or the Comiket episode of Lucky Star to remind me of the good times.
>What did you watch and what did you guys do?
We mainly watched anime then discussed random topics (including anime) till around 1am or 2am, sometimes all the way till 5am cause we were that tight. That club introduced me to anime like Baccano, Durarara, Darker than Black, Baka to Test, the list goes on.

Yes, back when I was in high school from 2010-2014. It was full of nerds, for some reason we all wore hoodies, jeans, and hand me down sneakers even in the summer. In retrospect, They were all great friends and fun guys to hang out but years later they're all pro-lgbt and trannies, no fucking way i could relate to them now even with anime. Something about anime slowly grooms you into faggot. There are some chuds out there who've been watching anime since the 90's that haven't been affected but still.

I went to my high school anime club once. They watched one episode of Death Note and then an hour and a half of various sentai shit because that's what the club president was really into. Some of you probably want to say "based sentaichad" right now, but he was also a brony who carried around a plush at all times.
Anonymous No.281793924
When I got into anime in the 90s, only turbonerds knew what gook toons were, except maybe Speed Racer or Voltron. Almost no one on the American continent had heard of Dragon Ball. If only I knew how every beaner on the planet would become obsessed with it soon...

It's just a strong correlation with autism. Same with speedrunning and modding.

Yes, back in college.
The original anime club for my university eventually spawned the largest anime convention in the state.
That faded away, and the offshoot that I was a part of basically just watched anime, voted on anime, and at the end of every semester, we would do jeopardy or name that tune
I got two figures as prizes for winning both in my freshman year and then I was an officer in my sophomore year, where I was tasked with obtaining the anime we would watch. I had an MPV config that moved subs to the top so they could be seen easier.

Nope, my highschool was 100% normie. The only person who was interested in anime was a guy obsessed with shonen, manly manga and cool stuff, he had godly drawing skills and since he was the only other guy who watched anime/manga at school he would talk to me all the time even though our tastes didn't totally match. I heard he made it big as an illustrator for some company, good for him
