People are gonna treat this show as the second coming of christ when it comes out aren't they

it's a 6/10. It's above average, but nothing it does is particularly interesting or new, it's just another mid character-driven show about depression like bojack horseman, and like with bojack horseman, the characters do not have much going on beyond their trauma and the way they mask it. I didn't hate it but i'm not looking forward to it being on everyone's top 10 for the next decade because "it's so deep" (it's not)

There are still people who watch Punpun and say “muh it’s literally me”, Takopi doesn't generate the same effect (with it being so short and the characters so exaggerated, it’s normal). I remember there was a manga in Jump+ last year that tried to plagiarize it so blatantly that it cringed me out, but that was more an attempt to try to jump on the miserydrama train than anything else

i think most mainstream watchers enjoyed the exploration of the nature of relationships, lonliness, and finding one's purpose. It was the perfect sophomoric level for the average midwit to go "wow how deep" but still understand it.

That said, the show also has well written entertaining characters, some genuinely interesting world building, and the best pacing i've seen in years, also solid art.

It wasn't. The author didn't put much thought into the creatures, society, and magic system. Dungeon Meshi is another fantasy anime that came out around the same time with much better world building.

It does avantgarde monster designs and uses a lot of foreign words in a very pretentious way, I mean just look at the title. And yet you look inside that pretentious package and what do you see? Shallow yuribait that relies on shock value for its only source of entertainment. No real drama, just violence. Nobody cried at Madoka, it doesn't make you sad, it just makes you gasp at violence. Takopi is a drama. A nice and realistic one, and the sci-fi shit isn't deep or pretentious at all. In fact it's barely explored and nobody cares about it. It's just there as an excuse to drive drama forward

Madoka and Takopi are only similar in broad strokes. But something I could appreciate from Takopi is that unlike Madoka which subverts a genre built on the innocent dreams of little girls by making the cute mascot character actually pure evil, Takopi was able to give an interesting take on the Doraemon-like genre while still preserving the hope and purity the cute mascot character represents.

I gave up halfway through because it was frustrating to watch. The author obviously wasn't interested in telling a story and put logic and nuance well in the back seat in favour of whatever contrivance would make characters the most miserable. It's moronic.

It's like the Junji Ito approach. "Why are we going to the graveyard in the middle of the night again?" "Because the author won't have a chance to draw a scary monster otherwise."

If someone got hit by a car in the Tacopi universe it would go like this:
The person who gets hit is a child because of maximum shock value. The first person to find the dying child is, coincidentally, a close relative out for a walk so we can see some emotion. They fumble for their phone and directly call the kid's father, an ambulance driver on shift, to come as fast as he can. Tears in his eyes and determination in his heart, he speeds down the road to get to his kid in time. Alas, too fast- in the moment he takes his eyes off the road to wipe them with his handkerchief (homemade with 'I love you daddy' written on it in a child's scrawl) a depressed person (got to make it topical) wanders, lost in their own dark thoughts, into the middle of the road and the ambulance driver isn't able to stop before he hits them. He's too late to save his kid and gets a dose of the depression himself (it's going around these days). His wife, a doting mother, cheerfully comes home after work that evening having bought the ingredients for the family's favourite meal omu-raisu on the way home at the supermarket (coincidentally choosing this day as the one to show her love) to find her husband has hanged himself.
