Its technically possible to defeat Simon, but you can't rely on breaking his spirit. The antispirals strategy was to inflict despair with incremental successes followed by devastating escalations, but Simon refused to budge.
But if the Antispiral had just gone in for the kill with their full power from the start, before Simon had the chance to absorb power and level up, they would have won. Simon can catch up to them in power, but not if they take him out BEFORE he can catch up to them in power. That was their mistake, but to be fair their strategy had worked many times before on other spiral warriors.
The DB fight mostly just came down to the fact that even with wanking lantern powerlevels, the lanterns top out at a maximum power and frequently run out of juice when they do anything too big, and Simon doesn't. The lanterns do anything cosmically impressive and immediately run out of power, Simon does something cosmically impressive and them immediately follows that up with something 10x stronger. There was no contest.
