It's pretty interesting, I was reading what the K*reans were saying about the episode and there's quite a few of them that thought this arc was too mean or disrespectful to Chii, or that it discounted her first season experience too much. I was surprised to see multiple posters with that sentiment, since I haven't really seen that echoed elsewhere.

Personally, I think it would've been weird or even OOC if she DIDN'T get bothered by Vivi's groundbreaking success, especially keeping in mind the whole "people are hard to change" philosophy. I feel like her emotional growth gained from her previous struggles was evident via her solving that inner conflict in a mere handful of episodes, in a way that is ultimately much more healthy and mature (even if it might be seen as embarrassing to bow to a junior and admit your faults), rather than just bottling up that anger for ~40 episodes until it all goes horrifically wrong.

Same, I liked that Sakura called her out for feeling the same way towards Vivi that she felt towards Himari. This whole arc did a great job developing a lot of S1's stories even further.

It's a matter of mindset. I was talking with a friend that had a similar kind of sentiment, and explained him that both Vivi and Wild Star is a reward for Chii. A deservable upgrade that exists due Chii and for Chii.
Also, as a note, it's a good reminder to rewatch episode 31, since it complements it so well. Today was pure narrative kino.

I think there's a lot of that, too. For example, one of the complaints was along the lines of "it doesn't make sense that she can give mentor-like advice to Mii earlier in the season but then go and have this drama," and I fundamentally disagree with that assessment as a point, I think it's perfectly fine and very human to be able to give good emotional advice to others while still being troubled yourself. Nothing much you can do about mindset disagreements, but I was just surprised to see it on a more widespread level than I expected.

It's a matter of personal preference, but I really enjoy that Aira's troubled relationship with Shoe was the source of her DMF woes. The whole "regular girl ends up dating her favorite ikemen celebrity and they live happily ever after" is such a boring cliche, I think it's way more interesting here where that ikemen celebrity turns out to be a massive piece of shit on a personal level and Aira has to try (and fail) to reconcile with that fact, and that failure leaves her in a vulnerable and confused place. It's a very real and surprisingly mature depiction of the realities of celebrity worship and the problems that can arise from dating someone whose public image doesn't reflect the type of person they really are. Ultimately, Shoe himself is the one who had to change and become a better person to make the relationship work, which you do see him do by the end of the show.
