Instincts alone do not dictate complex behaviour like hunting.
Together with the environment they form a "reason" (taken in quotes, because I'm obviously anthropomorphising things) for a predator to hunt.
Something like "I'm hungry" or "I'm not hungry, but soon I'll be and food is scarce so I must hunt now" or "I'm not hungry, must feed my social group/offspring".
Well fed house cats that never had to care about anything cannot really formulate a "reason" like this.
The only "reason" left for them is maintaining their hunting skills by playing with their prey, and even that usually goes away with age.
