Because catering to the "he's autistic just like me crowd" is retarded since they're such a minority, and his obsessiveness and quirkyness can easily be explained by him being a loner and having strict parents and upbringing. And probably not being the brightest bulb in the shed. But his social skills are pretty much countering him being autistic completely.
You really have to wear youri goggles to think that their relationship is romantic instead of platonic. And honestly that's more or less any series where two girls are close. Like it's fine and all that you have your fetish, but you don't have to stick it up to the face of everyone.

I have autism and that Laios dude straight up gave me autism vibes. There's no way she didn't intend for him to be autistic imo She probably doesn't want to claim to represent anything her manga. That lesbian stuff is weak tho

I'm fairly certain this is bait but
>character TOTALLY has [highly stigmatized mental illness/developmental disorder/disability that fundamentally alters how his brain works]
no author would ever do this in a story that isn't centered around the protagonist's psychological state. You'll never see a character with autism or schizophrenia or anything like it in a casual story no matter what because it's a) a total landmine, b) unnecessary to the story, and most importantly, c) uninteresting if not outright repulsive to the average reader. The best you can hope for is woke western "representation" of an autistic child (because autistic adults are expected to either be normal or disappear off the face of the earth) or plausible deniability of a normal person you can headcanon about.
Interpret whatever you want, just be aware you're in the same headcanon bog fujos and yurifags are.

Most high functioning autistic individuals can easily blend into normal society

>no author would ever do this in a story that isn't centered around the protagonist's psychological state.
It's called characterization and social sensitivity (the latter being female mangaka are more likely to show, see Kimi to Uchuu wo Aruku Tame ni or 3-gatsu). Obviously she won't say he has autism in such a popular work.

They also proceed to shit up any other discussions that could be had about the series, Aquatope was probably the worst example of it I'd seen.
>Main characters have an explicit surrogate sister relationship that develops because one of them had a twin sister that died in the womb.
>Show isn't subtle about it at all and has the character outright state how they feel like sisters despite not being related.
>No real romance plot lines developed in the series since it's more about SOL aquarium work.
>90% of the threads on /a/ were still just shipperfags shit flinging over their yuri vs het ships instead of talking about the actual show itself.

I can identify different types of autism. IDK why it's so important to you that he isn't autistic, to me he just feels like he was made to deliberately display autistic behavior. Laios is a normal if himboish with dad issues type of guy, the only reason why it seems like he autistically focuses in on the dungeon is because they are in a dungeon the whole time.
One of the funniest bits near the end was that his favorite food didn't even have anything to do with dungeons or monsters. This whole time, all his fanaticism, and his favorite food is some normal ass pie.
