Oreimo is up there. The anime was a mess because they ran out of material and did an original ending that shat on literally everyone. The light novel ending was so hated that Fushimi wrote what-if endings for each girl. I was pretty new at the time and remember the train crash just kept on going, I don't think I saw anyone turn against a series so quickly before then. Good times.

The VN was ok but that's only because they supposedly kept Fushimi away from it after everyone realized how much of a hack he was

I disagree, majority of fujos, even Japanese ones, in my experience are highly sensitive and official content is very careful not to step on their toes. They know they can't fight the actual author, aka God, but I have seen meltdowns from Nip twitter over merch that doesn't have their ship together, or even worse puts one of them next to a female character, to the point of harassing and threatening the company releasing it and contributing artists. The merch autism goes so deep that when you buy a box set of trading keychains or other small stuff, the characters will often be lined up in the box in fujo-friendly order. They also regularly stalk and harass fans of female characters in tbe same series and/or straight shippers without provocation because believing their characters aren't gay is akin to blasphemy and needs to be corrected.
