Honestly as much as I like the crazy shit they have to fight, Momo and Okarun’s relationship really is the heart of it all. That editor that allegedly forced the author to read romance manga before submitting another proposal really made a golden decision.

nah, i think it's just how the dude originally wanted the protagonist to be proto-Momo. Editor-kun was the one who forced Okurun.
usually it goes the other way.
other shounen mangaka are forced to add girls in by their Editor-kun. like Gaygay or Kishi were distressed at how they had to add girls to their mangeese. also they basically shove the girls in to a closet and try their best to never have to use them.
