He was never a Karuta nutjob, and lived all his life pleasing mommy (nice milf, by the way) and literally orbiting (I don't like using this word, but alas, that's what he did) around Chihaya and the Karuta world. Come the fuck on. There was only ever completion if you had shipper goggles on or you were judging the options with male sensibilities. The fagboy was hot af with a terminal oneitis (absolutely massive plus on hot guy), comes from a wealthy family, will have a high status occupation in the future, massively sacrificed himself for the bitch and proved he was chad enough to put his foot down when the time to make the bitch his came. The four-eyes nerd on the other hand "shared the bitches passion" and was a bit better at the retarded card slapping. Pathetic honestly. If he needed "fixing" and the author was into that (which she clearly isn't) then it could have gone either way but as things stood, the winner was obvious.

From your comments, it's obvious you've stopped watching around season 1 or barely remembers anything past that such as Chihaya admitting she is in love with Arata and the whole manga being Taichi ups and downs.
I mean, from the average shoujo manga standpoint you are absolute correct, but the author was signalling she wanted it to be different or at least pretend that would be the case.

I should have seen it coming when the mangaka retconned Taichi bullying Arata when they were kids . It wasn't even something that needed to be addressed, but she changed it anyways. If nothing else, admitting there was a forgotten loose end would have been better than trying to gaslight readers into thinking this was a rejection.

Glasses was her main obsession and driver for half of the series and also the reason she turned down the prettier boy initially. Granted, there's no way the author wasn't going to hook up the female lead with a love interest that can provide absolutely everything. Shoujo readers self insert as the lead after all. But claiming it was obvious from the story alone is untrue.

I think the author failed to convince me that Chihaya was THAT good at Karuta. I never thought she was better than Shinobu or on par. She won because HAIYAI and main character. It was a rather unsatisfying final match. Then I LOVE TAICHI was just lol.
