She suffered the curse of being a sane character in a story where everyone is insane, which makes them go "what is wrong with everyone why am I the only one who's sane here???", which ironically makes the not-insane character become insane due to questioning everything and themselves. Did I nail it? I haven't watched this shit in like 20 years but I vaguely remember her being not as insane as the others, at first, but then she slowly lost her shit.

I remember the director on the audio commentary going like "she rigged the election and wears fake glasses, she's deceiving and therefore very womanly". Was pretty based.

You might as well compare the endings of the other sequels to the first because even those endings were ass.

It's sad because the sequels could have theoretically been as good as the originals if any of what the Adult Swim guy said is true. He claimed that they reached out to IG and said, "make something that respects the legacy of FLCL and make it as cool and unrestrained as possible and that's it."

So I feel like there's only three possibilities:
1. The directors/animators couldn't match the insane level of creativity and imagination of the original (whether through lack of talent or too much reverence for the lore who's to say)
2. There actually were insane constraints on the directors/animators in the form of budget restrictions, too much oversight to make it less insane, too much demand to keep the project lore focused etc...
3. Nothing the Adult Swim guy said was true and the project was always going to be micromanaged to hell to be in line with physical sales and squeezing the license for all its worth and it didn't matter to him what the end products looked/felt like

Glad I only watched the first sequel and largely forgot it so I can just keep the memories of the original alive in my heart
