Hunter x Hunter doesn't always have straightforward heroes, but it usually has straightforward villains. The Phantom Troupe are a group of sympathetic villains, but villains nonetheless. Genthru was a villain throughout his arc. Hisoka is a villain through and through. The only primary antagonists in their arc which could have been considered in some sense justified are the ants, as they were acting on animalistic instinct. Once Meruem made the transition into seeing humanity as something to care about, the line really blurred.
