Terra is filled with literal immortals, ancestor spirits screaming ancient slurs in the heads of their descendants, eldritch abominations, ancient gods and actual demons. It's a borderline kitchen sink.

So what was happening here? a memory? necromancy?

I often don't care much for flashbacks, but the two shown over a couple of episodes in this season were really good and saved the entire plot.
I liked how Alina broke character when fear of death took over and made her admit she didn't want to die.
I especially liked how Talulah degenerated into finally betraying her own beliefs and eradicated that village after Alina's death. The dialogue in that part and her train of actions over the course of it felt quite compelling.
Was pure kino.
Almost as good as Geto's breakdown in jjk, and that's up there as being one of the best.

It had its fault, but despite the purple prose and over-convoluted plot threads, it managed to show a few gems here and there. Now, i don't play arknights anymore, but still like to occasionally keep up with it because I'm waiting for Endfields, and really, really enjoy the character designs. As a fan, this could be considered a good game adaptation and is a wholly more favored to what else is out there.

The next arc has extremely dense politics, like eight different sides involved in a massive civil war with competing factions within each camp, and a bunch of hidden agendas on top of that. I think it'd be a pretty big narrative problem if the first three episodes ended with a desperate struggle to get out the true story of a massacre of civilians, after terror bombing an entire city with Originium rounds and murdering a renowned poet and then the rest of the season just... Never talked about that, the fallout from it, or anything related to it again. It'd be like if the first season, after Ace's sacrifice and their desperate escape from Chernobog, then jumped over to adapt Invitation to Wine because hey, Lungmen's in Yan so it's still a Yanese story, right?

It worked in the game because it's telling a decently-lengthed self-contained story with decent payoff, and it doesn't matter THAT much whether they call it a "main story" or "side story" - but if you compress it for the anime, it'll just feel weird and out of place unless you make it an OVA instead or something. At least, in my opinion - I'm no producer or showrunner.

The stories have big, impressive supernatural moments as backdrops and climactic points - but they're not really ABOUT flashy powers or supernatural events, those are just used to add spice.
