Wait never mind, I'm calling it, it was Umemiya. The poison was in the straw, and the capsule was only put in later (?) To provide an alibi. Umemiya and the girl friend are the ones who could have done it, because the father and the groom both disparaged the victim for drinking lemon soda. Only Umemiya would have had the foresight to realize he could use the soda as a murder device, and offered the poisoned straw to the girl friend. If it had been the girl friend doing the poisoning, the dessicant would have been outside the window (she was close to it when handing out the drink).

Let's see how off I am.

Just a handful of names. Even more oddly, they make sure to add translator's note for Gosho's little fictional detective bio's when they're the reference for the character names they changed.

As someone pointed out in a previous thread, it very much feels like a directive from above. Maybe even from the Japan office. The kind of people who think you still have to change names for people.

There is actually plenty of women in Conan that don't wear lipstick, unless they are dressed up for some fancy event.
It's faster and easier to draw mouths without lipstick, though it could also be because it gives the women an air of maturity. Which is probably why younger women like Azusa and Kobayashi-sensei are seen without it, while Eri and Wakasa-sensei, both in their late 30s, have lipstick. Yukiko Kudo is an outlier cause she insists on being seen as younger.

The real reason to wrap it up will become apparent in a dozen more cases or so. People go on about the Clark Kenting Conan does, or the constant reuse of potassium cyanide. But the biggest problem to me is the rote way it devolves into writing cliches after awhile. Aside from overly complicated murder/alibi contraptions something that it originally made fun of in an upcoming case before almost every case devolving into convoluted string set ups, cases will begin to repeat lines again and again and again.

Takes a drink for every time:
>the battery in Conan's radar glasses runs out
>the criminal discovers they're detectives and then commits their premeditated murder anyway, even once the Gosho stops giving time based excuses for it and it would've been trivial for them to do it later
>Conan asks a nameless background character "hey, what about..." and whispers the important part in their ear
>Conan says "that thing they said"
>everyone says "it's a locked room murder!"

It's still very fun, don't get me wrong, but it's kind of silly how regimented it gets in a way it wasn't until you hit the 200's or so in chapters.

To be fair, it's really a lot of cases for something that needs to be not only written, but also drawn, and at a tight schedule. Some shortcuts and repetition had to be made.
But lately it really feels the series has run its course, the temple case in volume 105 is simply too similar to the one in volume 11. Sure, he changed the method and reason, but it was really like applying a different coat of paint to the same thing. And when kids are involved it starts to look more like school education special.

Oh sure. There's still some good cases with different set ups (especially the ones that aren't murder, which he probably should've done more of this early on, it became the "everyone dying all the time show" way too quickly) and sometimes even the murder cases show a bit more creativity with different pacing or scale.

But some of the cases are definitely filler. Wherein there's just some complicated set up, Conan notices stuff, often left unshown to the audience, and then he catches the criminal in a paradox.
