Megumin epitomizes what Konosuba's appeal is. Out of the "worst" girls surrounding the protagonist, she is the worst.
>No one wants her in their party. Aqua made Kazuma blush and call her pretty in his mind, same with Darkness, not for Megumin. Megumin is such a scumbag, she had to blackmail her way into the party unlike the other two.
>She is the most psychotic character in the series, willingly about to let her own little sister die just to save up on Explosion points, until Yunyun came to the rescue.
>She bullies the most innocent character in the cast. (Yunyun is younger than Wiz and isn't a demon general, so she's still more innocent than who Aqua bullies)
>She willingly kills off ecosystems and puts innocent lives on danger for fun. Even when a powerful demon confronts a town threatening them, Megumin still confessed she was the exploder just because she revels in her own destruction that much. Yunyun struggles with killing innocent creatures, but Megumin, as shown in her spin-off series, has no trouble murdering cute critters for fun.
>Megumin is a consistent thief, arsonist, killer, psychopath but everyone carries her on their back when she's tired. She's not even useful enough to go in enclosed dungeons because her magic doesn't work there. Aqua is able to hold a stable Goddess job for a long time, unlike her who isn't wanted in parties. Aqua has offensive and ressurection and healing magic and buffing magic, Megumin is just a living nuke who is mentally unstable.
Despite being the worst girl, she still has the best character development. Eventually she allows Kazuma to get rid of her Explosion dream if it meant he would suffer and die less. The most heartwarming and meaningful scene in the franchise. And on top of that, Megumin is very open about appreciating her friends. She openly praises Kazuma and cares about him throughout the series, more than the other two girls.
