I remember watching and reading that and seeing the same thing. Naruto and Sasuke were only really friends during the Zabuza arc and in the early episodes of the Chunin arc, and even in those episodes Sasuke was still bullying Naruto to a certain degree at times.

And those few monents don’t justify nearly 600 chapters of one-sided obsession (from Naruto) with the other, and I think Kishimoto realized that, because by the end of the series their friendship was much more based on their supposed similarities in childhood than on tangible interactions they actually had throughout the story.

I think original Goku vs Bejita mid-diffs the p1 final valley fight. Like trying to picture both of these fights happening in reality and it's cooler to imagine the 2 men fighting a battle with those higher stakes than the little lanky kids, but the 2 lanky kids fighting does work well enough in anime form

It's usually way easier (but also wrong) to defend stuff like Sasuke retrieval arc even though the pacing is fucked there too (but in the opposite direction the arc is empty the fights are way too short)

Kishimoto needs to draw more fights and less flashbacks, his fights are incredibly short when you remove the gay dialogue

Not really. Gaara had pretty much the exact same circumstances that Naruto did and also had a kaiju demon living inside him, so it makes a lot more sense for him to relate Gaara than for Sasuke. I don't think Naruto ever experienced anything like Itachi forcing Sauce to relive the entire massacre of his family.
