Wut. The parenthetical bit was supposed to read "Fuu = vision, Maon = hearing, Norie = taste, Kaoru = smell, Kou = touch," but I done messed up.
You can extend the pattern to some other characters if you try (e.g. Sayomi has a poor sense of direction), but I really liked the conceit because it reinforces the show's themes of perception and ambition: everyone perceives the world differently depending on their preferred sense, and thus interacts with it differently, and thus has different goals for their lives. It's this diversity of perception and experience that make people in general interesting, and those with the ability to share their unique perceptions (like Fuu can with her photography or Kaoru can with her potpourri) are the natural artists—people who can expand other's experience of the world by sharing their own.
