The narrator calling him "Hitokiri battosai, THE Manslayer" in the add on toonami back in the day will always stick with me. Calling someone Manslayer Manslayer will always be hilarious.

Yeah but hitokiri is litterally assassin or manslayer in english so in essence he's call him assassin master of battou jutsu the man slayer which makes no sense.

It's really crazy to me that anime used to do this. Think about all the manpower and effort put into things that people now just consider "filler." All, more or less, just to maintain a time slot on a network.

Some series didn't even follow the manga at all. Or maybe both the anime and manga were conceived at the same time but as different things. I think that's better than following the manga until you catch up and then diverting into anime original stuff. But even outside that, they didn't even adapt the beginning of the series with all the content intact. Yu Yu Hakusho was like that too.

Eat-Man is a good example of that, the 1997 doesn't follow the manga at all aside from using the same main character, the 1998 anime was promoted as being "faithful" to the manga but only 4 episodes adapted stories from the manga and the rest was anime original as well

It was a different model of production and funding. It is a bit strange to think about the world being so different since anime is largely still broadcast on TV first, but there are a lot more options for watching shows now. It used to be that TV was practically the only game in town.

This anime Samurai X also changed the story. In the manga some parts of the beginning are different and they changed it deliberately because they thought they could write it better or maybe because the initial plot of darker in the manga while the anime remains more joyful.
