Was he your favourite Sin Archbishop? Did you prefer the others or not?

He was intriguing in S2 but became mediocre in S3, it seemed like they were overcompensating his character by making him too buffoonish and comical

He is the most entertaining archbishop, but he's not best.
Even with his overpowered ability it's hard to see him as a threatening character since he's apparently just getting dragged along by the other arch-bishops with no real personal motive.
Petelgeuse is my favorite, but i've been anime-only.

They all are cringelord clowns.
Some author tweets about Regu for the animeonlies that were robbed of his backstory:
>Regulus-san has passed away, so let's talk about him a little. Petelgeuse had a backstory you could sympathize with, but the rest of the archbishop's do not. Regulus-san is no exception.
>Regulus-san's family was poor, but they were kind people that cared about him. However, Regulus-san took all his family's concern and affection as looking down on him, and developed a sense of inferiority. His white hair is due to stress.
>Regulus-san's first wife was his childhood friend from the same village. She was a beautiful girl that never looked down on him, but once he obtained an authority, Regulus-san killed his own family and hers right away, and claimed her as his bride. He wiped out the village, and the country.
>Reglus-san's wife's cause of death was suicide; she pierced her own throat in front of his eyes. After having never smiled at him up to that point, a smile of contempt now rose on her face, and that became his ultimate trauma. Regulus-san made a grave only for her.
>However, the reason he made the grave for her wasn't love, but to make the excuse "Even if you died without carrying out a wife's duty, I, as a husband, have the mercy and generosity to make you a grave" that no one had asked for, so I think there's nothing more or less to it than that.
>Afterwards, Regulus-san took 291 wives in total, but the one that was his wife the longest was the first. It's likely not so much that he treated her as being precious, but because at that time his first wife was the only location he could place "Lion's Heart".
>Regulus-san doesn't remember the location of his wife's grave, and he doesn't recall his own family that he killed, nor the face of his wife that killed herself. That's why no one's face appears in flashback scenes. He just remembers that they were smiling at him as he died.

He was pretty much always like that in the novels, and even his second encounter in the anime had him get clowned on. Pic related is him in his uncut autistic glory.

He has a personal motive: collecting bitches. Witch cult shit doesn’t interest him and is tangential to that goal.

>>282118740
Tappei just slipped into making them cartoonishly evil.
He could've written a tangent that he did actually like his first wife because that's when his body's time wasn't stopped. Genuine love did manifest, but he was so twisted that even in that he made his first wife's life miserable, but it still kinda shone through his twisted demeanour and the whole grave thing was something that was relatively well written prior to Tappei's "True intentions" with it. You can make genuinely evil characters feel human, and to be honest Tappei has been going down this weird route of flanderization for his story. Its why WN Arc 6 and before feel so different from Arc 7+, he's ditched a lot of his early WN philosophies and instead of crafting a great world like Rifujin does and is just going for cheap shock value. The Seven Deadly Sins are rooted in humanity man, its why making them cartoonishly inhuman just feels shitty. These are more demons than people

He was my favorite until his actual arc came around and the anime butchered his character.
Cappy carried this season hard, like how the witches carried the last one.

Establishes that he was always a petty bitch and that acquiring his factor just gave him the power to act on it. The details of him slaughtering his own family, the village he grew up in, and the whole country is interesting as far as crashouts go
>>282125718
I think he wants them to be that. Just complete shitheads that were ‘destined’ to make everyone’s lives miserable the moment they guzzled on witch juju.
>Q: It’s nice that the archbishops are all scum, isn’t it? A lot of recent villains have had sad pasts and such, and don’t seem like villains, you know? I’m looking forward seeing how scummy Regulus is.
>A: Thank you very much. My aim with them was to create scum with no meaning, who felt impossibly awful. I’m looking for the feeling where understanding a little of what they’re saying only makes it worse. They’re all scum.

The grave part wasn’t even in the novels and was only in a Q&A that left people to think Regulus had genuine sentiments for her only for his tweets for his named episode to come out and shoot that down years after the fact.

It was still good character development even if not written. Just making mindless pieces of shits is not good man. It doesn't even humanize him, he built a grave but he was the reason that the grave was built, it lays a twisted sense of humanity there which actually creates more layers to him and his own depravity. It does add a layer of nuance to a character, and to spite this years after the fact isn't good writing or character development, it actually makes Regulus far more one note. This isn't scumshit, its just boring psychosis. I like evil villains for the sake of being evil too, but this is one instance where it actually harmed his evil by making it amoral over someone with a genuine set of warped morals
