I have the exact same reaction to Metropolis, it’s a great movie and I love it so much. The ways it plays with old style craft elements or just the entire premise built on synthesizing the original manga’s story with an expanded vision that is itself a sort of summation of Tezuka and all that’s been built on his legacy are so wonderful. It’s not just a classic sci fi but it also draws out the essential mythology of otaku subculture.
