Because Tsukihime was largely a product of its time. It was released during an era where both Boogiepop-style stories and visual novels were super in-style. Fate eclipsed Tsukihime in popularity because the concept is a lot more interesting than the standard early 00s "boy meets girl who turns out to be supernatural, then ends up in an occult urban fantasy story" story setup that every light novel was doing at the time.

Then you've got Mahoyo, trying to dust off a story Nasu came up with during the occult urban fantasy boom (long after it went out of style) and trying to release it as a visual novel (long after they went out of style). If Nasu name hadn't been attached, it 100% wouldn't have even sold a tenth of what it did, despite its production values.

To put this in perspective, it would be like doing a super high-budget flash game in 2020 based on battle harems. The one and only audience for Mayoho are fans of Kinoko Nasu.

60,000 copies for a multi-platform release is decent, but it's not "great" or anything.

By game standards or VN standards?

Kinetic novels kind of suck. I want choices and routes, otherwise I might as well watch an anime or read a book.
Mahoyo has an all right story, fun characters, and plays into the larger, more interesting side of Nasuverse lore that is the occult oddities and magecraft stuff, but it's basically an abandoned project. The story was originally released without voice acting when voice acting in VNs/KNs was pretty much industry standard and it was written as the opening entry to a larger story that was never completed and likely never will be.

it was already hailed as one of the best VNs of all time before the official translation came out and fucked everything up by making it popular and essentially killing off the fan translation project which had an objectively better presentation and proper PC client with better looking fonts and shit. if you've ever played hollow moon's partial releases (they've stopped doing them) then you know what i'm talking about

I disagree to be honest. I don't like Nasu at all but Mahoyo is clearly a very good product. I'd say if you like Nasu you'll probably like all of his works, he doesn't have a miss, but if you don't like him and don't like action and just enjoy good storytelling, the one you are most likely to like is Mahoyo

Nasu has a lot of stuff that got left to get dusty on a shelf. F/GO becoming a money-printing machine let them completely slack off of doing anything. And Nasu was the one who didn't believe in the profitability of the Gacha when he just signed off on GO.

If only he were right, we'd live in a better world.

TM has a long history of perpetually-delayed works even before FGO, and FGO itself suffered from continual delays on part 2 story chapters. Nasu always says FGO has him working like a dog in interviews, though. At least the money's gotta be good.

It's some schizo who periodically reposts the same bait.

Because the VN industry started to fall since 2010. Even Nasu himself couldn't help but prove it so he swiftly switched to gacha, a financially wise move perhaps, not artistically.

I don't really care for any of his Extraverse stuff beyond CCC. Nasu isn't a very good sci-fi/science fantasy writer. I think he got a little too comfortable at some point and became more self-indulgent. A lot of his later work is more derivative of his inspirations and whatever media he happened to be a fan of at the time of writing. He comes across quite flippant in interviews and it's reflected in his writing. Though to be fair, he's got his golden goose currently and it will continue to print him money so long as he feeds into it.

It's small simple kinetic novel where is nothing really memorable. Aoko is Tohsaka in disguise, Soujuro is Shirou but worse, typical eroge protag but there is no ero content, Alice is a plank of wood. It's really just mediocre.

It's not that Mahoyo flopped.
It's just that non-H VN is a dying medium.
Tsukihime remake didn't do great either.

Nasu put in a lot of effort into both but his half assed work in FGO makes like 10x more so he's like "FUCK IT" and just takes the otaku bucks for cocaine and JK hookers.

Huh, really? I thought it sold pretty well.
And picrel is only first week sales, a tweet from January 2023 states it has sold 300,000 copies physically and digitally

Nigga, read. The sales went from 66k to 110k over just the post-launch weekend. These aren't lifetime sales.
