The father's "corruption" meant his closest family, particularly his wife, would've come under public suspicion. Everyone would see her as tainted by her husband's crime. There's not enough context to tell if the family took her daughter because they believed the rumors about the wife or whether they did it as a favor, but either way the mom probably agreed to cut contact so her daughter wouldn't have to live with the shame of being the child of a criminal.

A lot of Vizisms are just forced by the Japanese side to maintain brand synergy.
Funimation did the names and their tagline for Conan was "One truth prevails!", so that gets put in Viz. The only time they were able to dodge it was with Ai but they still had to rename her (probably because Vi Graythorn wasn't liked by the Japs either).
You see this with Dragon Ball as well. Toei is the company that forces Funimation to use "Frieza", "Spirit Bomb", "Special Beam Cannon", "Vegito", "Krillin", etc., Funimation has no real say in the matter.

Conan isn't exactly popular in the west, and DC Special is very much an acquired taste.
It's basically weekly short mysteries with no real character- they're primarily all mechanical mysteries, about the method and the tools, with no narrative beyond the Black Organization plotlines which have already been translated (they comprise four chapters... out of 40+ volumes).
As for the anime, Fabre-Raw is uploading the best versions and another person has been timing subs to his releases, but past 120~ they're bilibili subs which are... "special" to say the least. Still watchable, just not ideal.

The truth behind Conan is that Shinichi never shrunk, the drug was slow enough in killing him that Ran managed to get him to hospital, where he has been stuck having this really long dream while in comatose state.

I was thinking about this earlier, but the series would HEAVILY benefit if the crime wasn't almost always murder. Not only does it get kinda weirdly preachy whenever someone has a sympathetic motivation (ie. someone always goes "MURDER IS WRONG DUMBASS!"), but it would help when the motive is sympathetic but murder is a bit extreme.
