the movie was a bit of a disaster
They did wonders adapting the novel into a fun s1, except with few fumbles like leaning into the retarded "tanya = evil also she looks retarded" angle when thats not what the ln is aboout. They succeeded is making it fun and coherent tho.

Movie was just bad, they cut out stuff from novels that explain what the point of all of this is and its pretty pointless to watch it.

manga is unironically the best way to consume the series. And there was 15 chapter dump couple days ago so that was fun to see, better yet tanya looks incredibly cute in it.

I dont know if they'll repeat the movie mistake in s2, maybe not since a full season has more time to setup things but the LN isnt doing them favors in being easy to adapt.

its written poorly. It's incredibly repetitive and poorly paced with mundane dialogue and internal monologue, theres a lot of "this happens, and then this happens" that doesnt flow very well.

The anime and manga has story climaxes that they had to invent themselves because the LN simply states events as things that happen and moves on which is anticlimax. If you watch the anime and then read the manga you'd go "wheres the fun conclusion to this arc???".
The anime team has to invent new characters and interactions to produce tension and such while not contradicting later LN events.

Oh great I was hoping this thread to discuss my experience

I got bored of waiting for S2 and decided to read the manga. I can see what is good now of the manga vs anime but also viceversa.
>Designs
I think it goes without saying but I really liked the men designs in the anime however the manga has even better designs! I wasn't expecting that. That said it should be obvious Tanya's design is better in the manga.

While it's obvious manga has no sound. The design made me give her in my head a new voice a more soft one compared to Aoi Yuuki and I enjoyed that. I guess without saying that the design lead me to that but I have come to dislike her anime voice in an 3rd rewatch. The art direction is freaking great and the sounds are satisfying. Music is forgettable it comes as trying to hard most of the time.

>Plot
Manga can take its sweet time to build up everything however the anime did cut a lot of interesting parts and change a lot of characters. One minor scene that comes in mind is the scene where she meets the navy officers.
The movie not only skipped but deleted /ourguy/ Romel and his arc, what a terrible shame. They anime decided to cut Tanya's biggest wankfest with all her superiors regretting not listening to her warnings about De Lugo.
There is some anime OC which I could care less. (Shotgun dude was cool)

To me this is honestly the biggest difference between those two. The anime tone is completely different with Tanya being at odds with Being X, dealing with the war and all the shit that just happens and she has to rethink her plans. There's some sprinkles of comedy here and there but that's about it.
The manga however half of the time is a comedy, shit just doesn't happen it's Tanya who triggers it always with the awful "misunderstandings" trope overstaying it's welcome for... almost the entire manga. It's funny once in a while but after the 50th time... If I had a reason to recommend anime over manga this would be the reason.
