It's just that... I don't even know at this point. Kengan Ashura had a clear structure. Few introduction fights and an elimination tournament with some downtime and surprise attack in the middle.
With Omega I have no idea what was the idea in the beginning. I have no idea what Sandro was going for with Worm, Death Dealers, Mugaku, Shen, anything.
There is a big tournament coming but it isn't related to kengan association or pugatory. No one is invested in it, none of the millionaires or billionaires. Why doesn't someone shoot Shen with an anti-material rifle if he is troublesome?

I know we used to meme about the villains being the real underdogs, but like... genuinely what is going on? That Tiger Niko's mysterious plans were advancing even though Fei just died, that the Worm was mysterious and dangerous, that Gilbert was winning the war offscreen, ect.

It's these two points that make this so nonsensical.
I'm honestly fine with Gilbert being another Edward, because "he" hammered home that they're not a singular person. Clones in combination with Huisheng means you can basically recreate the same person, which is why it makes complete sense that Gilbert starts dressing the same again because why would his preferences be different? I can easily buy Sandro setting up Edwards loss with his clone successor in mind to give the Kengan heroes a win without eliminating the "threat" (at least in Sandros mind).

What destroys this is that other people like the Saudi prince not only recognize Gilbert as a different character, they point out their difference when there shouldn't be any. So if it's like this, then yea, Gilbert should have just been a successor, not a clone of Edward.

I found it interesting the anime cut them entirely along with most of the Worm's connection to Hayami's coup.
Ranjo and Long Min still appeared and said cryptic shit, but the former still got folded like fresh laundry and the latter still just walked away from Cosmo and was presumably captured. They left themselves little room to adapt Omega, which is probably for the best.
The adaptation cut a lot of the minor out-of-combat interactions I liked, but it trimmed some fat and stayed focused for the most part.
And honestly? Even if they left in more the Worm and "Evil is on the move," it's not like you NEED to resolve it. I wouldn't call that an absolute ton of unresolved plot points. It's just sequel bait that hints at there being larger waves made by the events of the story. You can separate Asura and Omega just fine because I don't feel like there's any need to follow the sequel hook.

That's because Huisheng has always been a crapshoot with dubious results. "Passing on Wu Hei" always results in a mix and basically creates a whole new person. It's a Chinese cult game of human telephone. They figured that Alan was "the closest" to being Wu Hei, but by what metric? He believed harder? He was more like in temperament to the records they have of Wu Hei from thousands of years ago?
Edward remained partially himself and the mere fact that any of the Huisheng Wu could acknowledge they simply received Wu Hei's memories means they can't fully believe that they're him aside from schizo delusions.
It's basically a stated plot point that you can't truly recreate a person with Huisheng. Shen Wulong is weird because he basically just told his life story and trained his son in his techniques generation after generation, and only in more recent years was he seeking a more direct continuation of himself. The "aberrant individual" is just a Shen who doesn't fully play along with the farce or who kept a little too much of himself.
Cloning doesn't really make much difference in this either because even if you recreate a person genetically, their brain is going to develop differently and there will always be quirks to it. Gilbert was raised as Edward's son, but he performed Huisheng with his memories as Edward to create a "pure Edward" clone. The issue there is that Edward himself must have received the Wu Hei Huisheng treatment from a young age, so Gilbert massively diverges the moment he reaches a point in Edward's life cycle that goes beyond when he started to become Wu Hei. There are an extremely finite number of "non-Wu Hei Edward Wu" memories because he would have been mixed with Wu Hei pretty early in his life and the schizo treatment would have affected his development on a fundamental level. Gilbert can't be "just Edward" because they led massively different lives and there isn't enough "just Edward" material to use to get the same guy.

I like the concept of Gilbert well enough, but you would have had to keep Edward around longer and introduce Gilbert while he was still alive for it to have any impact. Strip back the Wu Hei nonsense, narrow the scope of the Wu clans, and explore the idea of Gilbert both as Edward's son and as Edward's attempt at working through his own regrets and/or hesitation about the path he took in life.

It would also set up Gilbert against Raian more naturally assuming that Raian still ends up killing Edward in the end.

It's not really "one family" so much as a clan is essentially a coalition of related families. They basically grouped up and call themselves "the African Wu." The "main Wu" cover all of China, which is itself a massive land mass. The Kure are just an offshoot clan that don't identify with the Wu, whereas the African Wu are still Wu.
The "main Wu" are basically just "the Asian Wu Clan." Eddie was the head of the collective "Westward Wu," which was basically every Wu clan that wasn't the Wu of central Asia.
It's really just a matter of identification. The African Wu themselves might have offshoot families that broke away and started calling themselves something else since they no longer directly allied with the Westward Wu. Think of how Leonardo Silva is related to the Kure, but isn't explicitly a Kure himself. Hell, the Kure family are a proper example of this because, for all intents and purposes, they are relatives to the Wu clan but are just a splinter faction that exist in one country primarily.
The real issue is that the Kure are given equal prominence next to the THE Wu and the entirety of the Westward Wu. It makes it seem like all of the Westward Wu are just a bunch of similarly-sized splinter factions that all want the name.

Anyone who leaves is just a splinter group unless they decide to keep the name, like how the Kure are to the Wu in general.

It's to the point that incest isn't even necessarily looked down upon among them. They're effectively multiple families for how spindly their family tree is. A Kure clan meeting at the compound is like attending a family reunion where the common point is that everyone there has some connection to your great-great-great-grandfather. Erioh was the patriarch of the clan for many years, but most of the clan isn't even remotely directly descended from him.
1300 years is a long time for the Kure to exist after all, and the only thing tying many of them together is that they choose to keep the name and associate with each other.
