A lot of the show's flaws are contemporary and a lot of the old ones, like camera jitter, I wouldn't include in the show because it doesn't add anything. It's superficial.
It's missing some key strengths of old fantasy/historical fiction anime too most notably the art. So much of the look and feel of old shit is in the paintings.

There's some interesting animation in the fights where it's a weird combination of old school pose heavy animation with some of the overblown effects of modern anime that I think are the most interesting thing the show's done. I don't know if I like it but it is different.
