I am a Christian and say Dragonball went downhill after the Namek Arc with its excessive violence. You can tell Goku doesn't like the stress of Super Saiyan and tried to make his son, his son's friend, and even Piccolo the main character. Dragonball doesn't work because the villains are murderers. Toriyama does a good job of making Mercenary Tao, Piccolo, Freiza, Nappa and Cell put on the veneers of respect before they kill you. See the Crane Hermit, Turles, and maybe Cooler will let you live. The only moral characters are Goku, Gohan, Yamcha and Tien and they're sparingly used. Piccolo is the only guy who can handle bad guys and even with the hand of God he can't stop villains. Another problem is that Bulma is not hot. Yamcha dodged a bullet
