How did Hibimeshi carry on the legacy of Yuru Camp better than Mono?

Both of them were good

Hibimeshi promised cooking and delivered cooking. Mono promised photography and spent 2/3 of the series doing anything else.

I'm still not exactly sure why certain location shilling in Yuru Camp worked (at least on me) while some didn't. Early Yuru Camp felt soulful while later Yuru Camp and mono feel soulless, even though mono covers Yamanashi and Nagano like Yuru Camp does.

Mono has a distinctly urban vibe to counterbalance the nature vibe of Yuru Camp. Mono goes on site-sighting tours throughout Japanese cities while Yuru Camp goes on tours across the Japanese natural landscape. You can see it through the fact that most of Satsuki's photos are in urban settings or of urban landscapes.

Yeah, the last episode was a strange one. I thought it was a good finale, but some anons felt the photo album scene was shallow and undeserving. What bothers me more now that I really think about it are Tajima's persona and the fakeout. If Tajima was a fake persona designed to prank the girls during the making of the movie, why did Sakurako refer to her as Tajima in episode two? It doesn't make sense for them to plan the prank so early.

And all that buildup and resolution for a half-finished prank movie was quite anticlimactic. I was under the impression that they'd show it to the entire school or something. Apparently in the manga they uploaded it to YouTube and only got so-so views.

Yeah that's true, but I thought the studio did their best with what they had. They had to do some kind of a finale and tie it in with the "premise", and I thought they executed it really well even if the design wasn't perfect due to the already flawed premise. I really enjoyed the callbacks to the events from the earlier episodes. They didn't even reuse any footage and even managed to reference the volume 1 cover.

When they went to Lake Motosu and neither of them gave a shit about Mt. Fuji because they're locals, that was funny. After that it just belabored the point, especially because like gets pointed out every time they don't even take photos! Yuru Camp had them going to camping stores and caring about camping and talking about camping; sure they'd go to an onsen every other episode and eat a lot of tourist food, but it was at least in service of their hobby and travel. That's a good way of putting it. I was down when I thought I'd been baited by 'cute girls in photo club' veered more towards sightseeing and ghosthunting, but it was all too disconnected with the nadir being the episode that didn't even have any club members in it. In terms of fucked pacing and running out of money it doesn't come close to Soranowoto's crash landing but it definitely didn't wash the sour taste of Yuru Camp S3 out of my mouth.

It felt like several different shows mixed in one. And even if they played to archetype the characters need to have some shtick beyond being reaction faces. I admit to only starting Mishi yesterday (thanks, thread) but right from episode 1 the girls all have their defined traits. You have the shy MC who opens up about food and wants to make friend. Who actually knows what went down, but I've always suspected that the 4koma was pushed upon him by Honbunsha because it's an easy way for them to cash in more on Yuru Camp's success. Obviously I don't have any evidence of that and it's just a random theory so I'm not making any claims here or anything.
But despite liking mono, it's just always given me that vibe. Doesn't make me not like it or anything even if it was all true.
