I’m honestly shocked at how many people think Kato’s just gonna get stomped by Baki. If you’ve been following Itagaki’s writing for the last decade, you should know damn well that’s not how it’s gonna go. Yeah, obviously Baki wins in the end, but there’s no way Kato gets completely steamrolled.

You can already see it coming: Itagaki will cook up some convoluted reason like “you just didn’t know Kato was actually this strong,” then spend pages on end with narration and character commentary hammering it in.
And of course, Kato will land enough hits to make Baki spit some blood, before getting that classic line out of him: “Kato-san, I’ve respected you all along.”
Exactly the same treatment Chiharu got.

Honestly, this whole part exists just to give all the side characters who’ve been humiliated by the Hanma family some dignity back.

Doubtful Itagaki actually believed it.
