It really doesn't in the LN since it's all from his perspective, but I was reading the manga adaptation and it focuses a lot more on others' perception of Tanya and how basically everyone sees her as some sort of angel of victory. Plays well with the whole "the empire slowly went insane during the war" and dug itself into its grave, because instead of just Tanya's prescient war doctrine allowing the empire to continue the war instead of just lose early, it also makes it out like Tanya's presence is also solving the morale issues of both the grunts and top brass.
The gender doesn't really matter to Tanya shrimself, but to the overall feel of the story (and considering that theme is established right at the start and never changes throughout the entire time it's kinda important)

The guys from Yojo Senki and Ojisan Villainess never lose their sense of selves and don't consider themselves to be women. In the latter's case it's even explicitly a temporary condition of being trapped in a game (kind of).

Little girls are the most innocent a human can get while remaining functional. It's not that boys are actually less innocent than girls, but that's still the overall cultural perception that we have.
So having the epitome of innocence go war crazy for selfish reasons is entertaining. I know for a fact I wouldn't enjoy Youjo Senki as much as I do if Tanya was a boy.

I think the biggest question is why make the original personality a male asshole rather than a female one. I assume in this case, the target audience (male otaku) would find it hard to root for a grown woman who acts like Tanya does even if she's in Tanya's body. MC being male works with the magnificent bastard trope, if MC was female I think they might just come off as a bitter bitch (though I dunno, maybe a good character design before death could have remedied that).

I was very pleasantly surprised by this show.
Who would have thought that having the isekai'd protagonist have an actually fulfilling life in their original life would make the character so much more compelling.
Every other isekai show is about re-doing and regrets or taking it easy and escaping from working yourself to death, here we had a genuinely kind old man helping the youngsters through his experience (life experience, work experience, parent experience) with no ulterior motives and it's entertaining to watch.

It's more like ojisan is possessing a version of Grace based off the otome game. I don't think it's too weird to like Grace since romance isn't the focus. It's more about how funny Ojisan can navigate the accidental harem he's making and the mystery of orginal Grace, surprisingly my favorite isekai.

I'm pretty sure you got the wrong character, I can't imagine someone having Grace as a waifu when we haven't even seen her actually, just her body being possessed by the main character. We just have a few flashbacks, some context clues and narrations from other characters to go off of. That is unless your friend has read the source material, I guess.

I've only read the Villainess ojisan isekai in this image but I like that he's just a dad in another body played completely straight. He's a father figure for most of the characters and unintentionally trips some romance flags for others purely his mindset and skills being filtered through a new body come across differently.

Yakuza Reincarnation is similar although a lot more combat oriented. But I like that both stories acknowledge that somewhere inside still exists the original soul of the body they possessed.

Not idea and I'm not that anon, but to be fair Tanya is a full reincarnation and it's not particularly weird that the guy's soul would be reincarnated in a woman's body at some point, going by the normal reincarnation rules in Buddhism (and therefore in Japanese thought).
Things are only weird because Tanya retains the memories of the previous life.

In fact, the fact that the three that I've seen out of the 6 shown in the OP are all very different from each other leads me to believe this isn't actually a real trope and that the similarities are only superficial.
