Well, tryhards hate naturally talented people, a story as old as time itself, but the one that treated that the best, that I remember, ping fucking pong. At least in that series the tryhard understands the gap in ability and how sometimes, life can be a bitch to you, without warnings nor announcements.
In here, ye olde friendo had some talent, but then he made a story in his head about becoming one of the seven sages, enter monica, our favorite socially incompetent girl, and turns out she is gifted. Motivated by her own social awkwardness she develops chantless magic motivated by ye olde friendo idea.
So, in a bitchy twist of life, his idea was brilliant, but he told it top her as a quasi joke, because he thought it would be near IMPOSSIBRU to pull out. So, momomomomomomonica pulling it out was the reason, or one of the reasons for her to be elected as a sage.
That, broke ye olde friend mind, in a bad way... I dare say, in a GOOOSH GOOOSH way. So instead of feeling great for her, who think of him as a friend, he snaps because she, a inferior being, one that needs protection, fucked his own conception of future.
he then thinks that she was a backstabbing cunning bitch that betrayed him and toyed with him. why? because its easier to think someone betrayed you than someone outsmarted you, specially when he was a prideful little bitch.
man it was an awesome episode, specially the corset scene.
I fucking love Mmomomomonica with the intensity of a thousand suns, because im socially awkward myself. This series, for me, its this season's sleeper hit.
