In 99.999999%, the story is situated in the not-!european part of the world, and there might be the occasional travel to the not-!asia part of the world, and through the desert not-!arabia with its veiled bellydancers and genies. There's not really going to be any need to go to the not-!black africa parts, if they even exist at all. Plus, no author wants to deal with racism accusations, and there's not really that many ancient depictions of a fantasy africa that wouldn't involve silly pigmies, cannibals with bone piercings, jungles and lions, half-naked bush men with spears and whatnot.
Plus, the most things we know about a fantasty africa comes from Tarzan and other euro-stories about colonial Africa, with lost jeweled cities that a superior white race built on the backs of blacks, but who really wants to read that nowadays?
At best, you get savannah beastfolks who are the stand-ins for africans, but in general, it's all subsumed in fantasy not-!desert country. .

In short, there's no inoffensive depiction of medieval era Africa that anybody could be inspired by. Or at least, there's not enough that are well-known.
