It's a ganking simulator. You're given a rather generous time to bail out if you get shot down that lets you escape without losing your Magus, but there's a lot more problems than that. Like how, on release, Drifter Association players only had access to energy weapons, Anti-Enders parts, and exploration parts. Black Market players would get live ammo weapons, Anti-Cradle parts which include "reduce energy damage taken", and exploration parts. So the result was a faction system in which one side can easily kill the other with very little opposition. The supposed advantage that Association players had (warnings of BM players showing up, warnings of BM player attacks) is basically nothing when there's no real way to communicate for things like sticking together to fight someone going around killing people. There's really just a lot of problems in general with the game.
They've made a lot of changes since then, but it's a too little too late kind of thing. Player count already dropped massively, and for something where it's basically only online/multiplayer gameplay, that's a death sentence.
At least the little tutorial videos were a nice touch.
