The card game itself is now utter dogshit that's built around the sweatiest of the autists preventing their slightly less sweaty opponents from actually getting to play it. You just can't market it anymore to children or new players. And since they ditched all the other games long ago and stopped pretending to be anything other than a card game series, there's no way out. Rush Duel was supposed to fix this, but the sweaty autist playerbsse screeched in rage at the mere presence of an alternative to their shitshow and refused to watch Sevens or Go Rush.
Yu-Gi-Oh seems to be having its Digimon Frontier moment, but its scope as a franchise is so much more limited than Digimon's and Takahashi isn't around anymore to get things back on track, so I don't know if it'll ever bounce back like Digimon has. Digimon could just listen to their audience and never repeat the gimmicks that made them hate Frontier; Yu-Gi-Oh is chained to its card game, which again, is shit.
