Well yea, the original was filmed on old film stock. Long before DVD and before BD. Where do you think they got it? There is word they are going to upscale again for 4K when that hits mainstream in the next two years. If you want an original you have to go with finding the original film stock and transfer it to 4K. The original film is probably rotted away anyways.

Yep. 4K is just that big of a jump and many don't really realize it. 1080p is small and gets all weird when you make it bigger. I have to go through all my pics and replace them with the maximum size I can find because everything old I have is so small. The technological jump is that big and that isn't even mentioning 8K and 10K which are 10 years in the pipeline.

So now what are you guys going to do now that people are running 4K systems? Hold out like the 720p guys did? Setup each time you want to watch old anime on an old computer? Accept upscales or even... AI to fill the gaps? New graphics card and 4K monitor? The clock is ticking away, you need to do something.

Not similiar at all, in that case Rumiko and Oshii mainly clashed over the tone and genre they wanted UY to take, with Rumiko wanting it to remain a simple gag comedy and Oshii wanting to go all “2deepforu” psychological drama shit.

Meanwhile Ikuhara and Naoko clashed over more minutiae details rather than the very tone. (Though there were creative differences between them in that area too, with Naoko wanting to go all edgy and grimdark while Ikuhara tended towards subtlety.)

Even in the manga Mamoru eventually becomes irrelevant, because Naoko gets the yuri bug and starts shipping Usagi with Haruka plus the ending is basically Usagi marrying her entire Senshi harem too.
