It's pretty arbitrary because rules are whatever the author wants at the moment, but we haven't seen anybody being constrained by 4X rules. The RPG characters do get constrained by the no retreat rule though, but they don't even last long enough for us to see whether the 4 character rule was an actual rule or something they never got the chance to test out.. After all, Atou clearly doesn't kill everybody in a tile's range instantly with her tentacles.

I think it's a bit stupid that Hero characters are outperforming RPG bosses in a 1 on 1 fight, if I had to balance it out I'd say RPG has the strongest 1v1 and Strategy games should have the number advantage. The best comparison would actually be Total War Warhammer where Heroes can be duelists or mages or other things and you have to be careful about duelist heroes going after your mage hero because they will demolish the 1v1.

It's especially true if we assume that the 4x games abstract things. In the Fall From Heaven mod this is supposedly based on, a hero unit is just a unit. A unit of soldiers however consists of several soldiers exemplifying the units health and strength.
So, if an individual unit is able to take down entire units of soldiers, it's only logical if that individual unit can take down other individual bosses from rpgs that fail against individuals in their own games.

Hero units are much stronger than soldier units, you either need several of them or elite soldier units vs weak (early game) heroes.
Also, rpg characters aren't taking entire armies head-on. In fact, they will often avoid whole armies and go through caves or infiltrate places to get to their targets. They are fighting small mobs of monsters that conveniently wait for the timer to end so that they can be the next in the line of random encounters. Between those, the heroes can heal themselves and rest (if possible). It's an entirely different scale.
Yes, the author will use several logic leaps to make Mynoghra the strongest, but at least the idea that a strategy game faction is stronger than monsters from a rpg makes sense.

That is a really weird thing to say, 4x fundamentally is based around armies and army compositions where each unit does need to have a counter, and it is very much about strategizing and countering the enemy units while also destroying the enemy base.
RPG really doesn't have that limitation, and most of the limitations can be bypassed lot more easily, and you can build some incredibly broken characters with the right equipment, spell sets and skills. If anything, RPG characters should be stronger, to keep the stakes on Mynogra side, going against much stronger opponents.

What I thought was a bit weird is, that they wonder if the Demon Lord is another player, but while it makes sense for the protag because he controls a playable faction in a 4X game, in a classic RPG the player obviously controls the hero party and not the Demon Lord and his minions. It would make more sense to suspect that the hero party is still out there and demons only exist to fulfill the condition of playing a RPG game, so that they can level up, get money and better gear, just like how the protag is able to use mechanics of a 4X game to build up his faction.

Nah, TCG is absolutely busted beyond everything else, I thought about this concept before funnily enough and for a TCG I used Shadowverse (specifically the Havencraft archetype), because that's the one I had the most knowledge of at the time and it also has a leader on the field, so that fits.

Not only would you able to infinitely scale up your HP (by healing no less), there are cards that make your leader (so you) immune to effects and damage. And that's before the really broken stuff even starts - like cards that not just kill but banish enemy units (if they have no spell/effect protection it doesn't matter how strong they are). Then Havencraft can summon the literal armor of god, which is also immune and invincible and my absolute favorite card - Enstatued Seraph, a petrified angel who breaks out after a number of turns and then you just win the game (this is a "amulet" card with no HP btw., if enemies don't specifically have something that destroys that, good luck, because it can't even be targeted by combat).
