Been waiting for this thread. I’m nippon rn and decided to buy a copy of volume one. I don’t own much manga nor can I read Japanese but it’s nice to own. Feels nice to support an ongoing manga I like too

I don't think I'm reading too much into this because the author goes out of her way to have S-sepai-tachi from ever using "onee-sama", but it seems they really did see it as a bit of roleplay to spice things up, or at least something not innately tied to their romantic relationship. At least on Sayori's end, since we don't see much of Mizuki's perspective. It seems more of a means to an end to her: an outlet for her rebellious attitude.

Paruyo, although she too refers to it as "play", seems to have that ye olde yurifag mentality where there's some esoteric je ne sais quoi about it. She's explicitly aware there's a level of sexual attraction on Kasumi's part, and yet she quite literally embraces it. In this chapter, Baruyo is quite enthusiastic when it comes to expressions of romance. To her, their S relationship is their romance. Hence why the two of them have flower names, and the senpai don't. This also calls into question Yamabe, whether she has a flower name and how she was involved with S.

As an addendum, Sayori is acting a lot more mature than one would expect from a high shcooler, especially in contrast with how petty she seemed with respect to her rebellious streak. I suppose getting consensually raped may have left a mark in more ways than one. On that note, in the title card, I can't help but see that arc as the outline of a person underneath the bedsheets, which would make the flower growing out her her ass. I'm having trouble parsing why there is one arm but two flowers, although I suppose they could be holding hands through the sheets.

That’s were I went. I went the famous 8 story book tower and Yuri was on the eighth floor with a tiny section to it (like maybe the size of home bookshelf) which it shared with some other genre. It did have some interesting and known stuff though that I’ve read.

Boy love on the other hand had almost an entire floor dedicated to it, as well as additional shelves littered around other floors.

I went to another multi-story otaku stop and it didn’t even have a dedicated Yuri section, just an odd Yuri here or there in the romance section and green manga. Yaoi however had an ENTIRE floor (which also had green manga there btw)

I think a divisive aspect of supporting manga as a western vs nip is that manga is cheap as hell there: a volume costs less than £5, in the west you’re buying an imported, likely officially translated, later edition. So a volume of a manga you have had to read online already simply out of availability will run you upward of £15 and a lot of those proceeds probably go to the importers anyways

You live in Japan you can just rock up to your local shop and pick up the freshly released first edition for like ¥600. These first editions/japanese versions also seem more cheaply produced compared to imported ones (thinner pages, thinner cover, likely fewer coloured pages etc)

It’s hard to take this chapter at face value.

As for the title page. I think the “curtain” being pulled exposing the wilting flower is pretty relevant. It also looks like a hand gripping a bed sheet. I think it suggests the current state of the senpais’ relationship: the white and upright silhouette being a facade or even a memory (what the two show our protagonists—perhaps fuelled by a desire to protect these “seeds”, this continued tradition that represents their past love), and the wilting upside down flower being the reality, hidden behind this curtain of, or perhaps revealed by, intense passion

You could also consider the hand itself reaching for the wilting flower. Maybe representing a desire to continue this love even if it has changed and it isn’t as brilliant and bright as the flower above it.

So maybe it would be amorous passion that would bring forth this decayed and maybe even ruined (though once gleaming) love. Or it was this unchecked passion that caused this aforementioned transformation. We’ll have to see to be sure
