Dragons kinda work on a different timescale from humans, for dragons a few thousand years is like a weekend. Which is kinda the theme of the story with them trying to appreciate humans, despite humans only living for the blink of an eye for dragons. We can't suddenly pretend that it was a long time for Lucoa when the story reinforces that for dragons an amount of time like that is almost nothing.
