Where the fuck have all of the speculah anime gone? Original anime seem to have basically all died, and even the handful that do get made are all missing the crucial elements of "cute girls in slightly-but-not-completely edgy situation" and "world that is much bigger than the window we get into it through the cast's adventure".

Kind of funny how blatant the character designs are borrowing from K-On. They should have gone with Kishida Mel's style instead. In fact, a few shows by A-1 around 2010 look like K-On to varying degrees. My guess, though I have no proof, is that Aniplex wanted A-1 to be their KyoAni. God I hate Aniplex so much.

That's not what I said at all. I said the blatantly copied character designs, the original Kishida Mel designs were better, and that Aniplex is a trend chasing money machine that just wants to monopolize the industry. Somehow in your head that turned into you thinking I said some unnamed persons are retarded for "taking inspiration."

I agree, the style of the concept art is better
It's still one of my favorite anime but I would have preferred if it looked more like this
I almost skipped over it, only decided to watch because I saw /a/nons enthusiastic over SPECULAH

For me they look more sao-like. >A-1 to be their KyoAni.
They are the exact opposite of kyoani, pumping out hundreds of dhows with abysmal animation with 1 or 2 good looking ones in between.

Animators that left KyoAni with Yamakan worked frequently with A-1 after Kannagi.
The anime character designer wasn't one of them. However, he seemed to like the KyoAni/K-ON style a lot.
He once used a pen name "Horiguchi Kami", Horiguchi being the name of K-On's character designer.
