but most importantly i'm SO fucking pissed that the stupid alien had the red thread of friendship, and the opening showed the girls connected by it, but it is never used in the anime itself. if he tied the 2 brats in episodes 1 everything would've ended properly right away, but ok he's stupid. but then he could've at least done that in the final episode but no, it had to be a deus "we selectively remember things from future timelines that don't exist" ex machina

also azuki/naoki/whatever plot was a fucking waste of time, could've cut 2 episodes by removing his "drama" completely

I just don’t get what teh fuck the author wanted, it tries to be a somewhat realistic portrayal of abuse but then everything is solved by happy magic or whatever, defying time and space by giving the girls small memories of event that never happened in their new timeline

It's a ribbon that stretches far and doesn't break. His explanations of the gadgets are from the perspective happians who are simple and happy all the time and reconcile easily. When I was a kid, there was a classmate who bullied me, falselly accused me to the teacher, laughed at me, etc. In the end, we got into a fight and became best friends. There's a huge difference between that and literally trying to stab you in the eye with a pen, destroying all your school supplies, insulting your parents, and killing your dog (Nooooo it happened in a deleted timeline, meaning the 10 yo girl had 100% intent to do it, but the octopus acked himself so now it’s all’ good).

I don't know what bothers me more, if many here think that realism is a quality in itself or if they think that showing little kids being abused just for the sake of showing little kids being abused is realistic.

He's a happian. The brokenness of humans is completely foreign to him. That's the point of his character. In the first episode he was already repeating "you just need to talk things out." The problem is he doesn't understand how they can even do that. Shizuka and Marina have nothing to communicate over since at that point Marina would refuse to listen to anything Shizuka says. Takopi is the bridge that allows them to start communicating.

I disagree. Takopi shows a lot of gradual growth. Just in the first episode he experiences what fear is for the first time and he grows to overcome it. After posing as Marina, he sees firsthand the consequences and gravity of his actions and begins to reflect on his mistakes. By the penultimate episode, he already learns how to say no to Shizuka and recognize when something is bad for her instead of blindly following whatever she says. Getting his memories back and his final conversation with Azuma was the last pivotal moment for him.

A kid ruining himself for the approval of a girl he thinks is cute is one of the more realistic aspects of the story though
It also serves to show how far gone Shizuka was by that point where she was legitimately happy Marina ate shit and died and her wanting Naoki to take the fall so she could continue looking for Chappy
