There's a gap in that reasoning that's not discussed often, and that's the issue of expected lifespan. While women do hit the wall earlier, they live longer. So by marrying a much younger girl you're setting her up for decades of loneliness. Only in the romantic sense - she'll have a company of your children if all's well - but still. It sucks.
That's the only issue I have with age gaps that's not related to arbitrary social norms. Unfortunately at some point I concluded that these, too, are not to be taken lightly, but that's a whole another conversation that has less to do with hard constraints of reality and more to do with humans being imperfect social animals.
