From the perspective of Kogoro setting this up, it requiring Conan to specifically fall over to get the scalding coffee on him is a bit questionable, but unlike some cases, he didn't just figure this slip-up from nothing.

But I guess coming up with this Rube Goldberg suicide machine took up most of Gosho's brainspace, so he just went "eh, who gives a shit" at the end.
