Though the animation itself was still spot-on, the character modeling has become WAY wonkier. A lot of it has to do with I suspect is Takeshi Maenami given too much free reign again in imposing his art style on his key frames.

Kaguya finally makes her appearance. That's 13 episodes ahead compared to the original anime. Since it will be episode 24 next week do you think they'll end the season and we wait for several months to proceed with the Kaguya arc. Or will they take a short break and continue the story?

Ok Kaguya is finally here. It's time to watch. Seriously I watched the old anime decades ago and episodes 20 onwards is where the show finally kicks off. Everything before that felt like filler.

Yaiba is not popular in the west so it all boils down to Japan if they have enough sales or viewership.

Then again, success in the west does not automatically mean season 2 for a lot of shows.

TV ratings in Japan are decent enough to quell fears of cancellation at least.

Kaguya really surprised me as someone who knows nothing of the manga or original anime, I should have expected it though since so much Japanese entertainment is just Momotaro or Kaguya. Really fun episode with great animation but that could probably be said for most episodes. Sex with evil women.

I watched the original 1993 series last year and have been reading Viz's releases as they come out (ignoring the fact that only one volume is out so far), and I have to say, I have a few minor issues with the new anime but I think it might genuinely be my gold standard for battle anime in terms of pacing and presentation.
Obviously not every anime can have its level of quality, but I am continually shocked by how much fun I have every episode and how coherent its themes and narrative are.
