I'm about to continue watching NNB
I'm almost done with s2
I was taking it slow, only watching a couple eps every few days, but then took about a month long break against the storm dlc and silksong came out
I really like how s2 was a REPEAT of s1 showing different days that were not shown the first time. It's a really cool idea for a second season. Apparently I should watch the movie and then wait 7 years to watch s3??
That's gonna suck having to wait that long

There is ZERO reason we can't have another inaka iyashikei series. The formula works as long as you put a lot of soul into it, so surely we'll get another similar show in time.

The episode where they went back to their hometown felt the closest to NNB, but yeah, the show was good. I hope it gets another season too.

The relationship between her and Kaede is my favorite dynamic of the show

I would like to rewatch the whole series again but I'm also a little bit afraid that I would somehow spoil the ultimate experience watching it too many times.
I've already watched NNB three times and the last time was not even a year ago (I think). It might not sound much but I just love NNB so much that I want to value it.

NNB is up there as one of the most interesting and unique pieces of media.
But despite it being almost purely innocent, it's something you can never bring up or discuss out of context with someone who isn't intimately familiar with anime.
And not even just that, they have to have at least some minimal conceptual understanding of SoL/iyashikei.
Out of context it just seems weird, despite being so wholesome.
Most people just won't get it.

It's not just a comfy run of the mill moeslop show, the characters and their dynamic and the dialogue and comedy writing are all top-shelf. We all love the sublimely understated, characteristically Japanese kind of directing style it has and the beautiful music and so on, but I feel like people sometimes underestimate or take for granted just how great and endearing these characters are. Atto was inspired when he created them and it's the kind of thing that doesn't come around often. Put everything together and you have a genre-defining masterpiece, but people who don't get it will think I'm being hyperbolic and cringe when I say that precisely because the show itself is understated and mostly lighthearted. They are partly right because I'm committing a faux pas by talking about it like this, I should just post a cute picture and type something silly, but I like to take a moment to be serious and say just how much I appreciate this series as a work of art, because I really love it a lot. Don't mind me and continue talking about Komari's curry

Literally, when you factor all of that into the fact she's almost completely inexpressive compared to her peers and is generally weird there's no other way to describe her except being autistic. I don't know what you think the criteria is for diagnosing autism in children, anon, but Renge matches a good few of the key indicators. She's not normal, that's for sure.

She's not completely inexpressive, she expresses herself very often. She just seems to have a case of permanent resting bitch face. She gets excited, happy, sad(sometimes very sad), and experiences and expressess all the emotions the others do. She also understands these emotions and why she feels them. One thing about autists is that many of them suffer from alexithymia, I think it's like 60% or something, which is a condition where the person doesnt understand what theyre feeling or why theyre feeling it. Nagato Yuki from Haruhi, for example, is a character that's pretty clearly autistic with alexithymia disorder added on. When you compare her and renge, the similarities basiclly end at the deadpan delivery and them being the smartest in their respective shows. Renge might have one or two traits that can be found in autistic people, but that doesn't mean she's autistic. You may as well say that hotarun is autistic because of her "obsession" with plushies and komari plushies specifically

I watched it at least 10 times over the years (maybe more, I've lost count), and I still enjoy it just the same, or even more, because my fondness for the characters grew with subsequent rewatches. For me this is the show with the most rewatch potential, in a similar way to a good stand-up special that you can come back to over and over and the jokes still make you laugh. I always want to spend more time in the company of these characters in this beautiful heavenly place in the countryside.

Non Non Biyori is one of the crown jewels of slice-of-life for damn good reason. It's just painful that it ended before we could see the kids grow up. It feels like an unfinished story that was just getting started.

All that being said, Natsumi and Renge sharing a brain cell was the most sugar-inducing part of the anime for me. I don't have a sister and I'm the youngest child, I always to imagine myself as Natsumi playing with Renge.
