I felt inspired when I was playing that Clementine metroidvania, Escape from Nazarick.

tonally it's very different, much more time is spent on autistic nerd pvp prep, the MC dropping his spaghetti, random vanity projects (pretty sure the MC spends some 3 books shilling his runecraft idea to no avail), and long winded explainations for why a minor slight must be answered with mass murder.
If there is only one novel you want to give a chance, I'd reccomend the alternative story where the MC gets isekai'd some 200 years earlier than in the main story and meets a vampire loli to go on fun adventures with. It's pretty much the most soulfull version of the series.

most shows that do this level of powerwank fail because the MC is either a total gary stu or insufferable edgelord. Overlord walks a fine line where the powerwank is a big part of it, but the other element is the worldbuilding and how the world reacts to ainz and nazarick.

Very different. It's way more in depth. Here is a warning though
Volumes 1-11 are great
12-13 are decent with some great moments
14-16 are just okay with a couple good moments. There has been a real quality drop since 14 until now. They feel both rushed and sluggish somehow.

Nah, the best volume is probably 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, or 11 depending on you taste on comedy. Most gruesome is probably 7, 9, 12, or 13.

S5 would suck ass, the elf kingdom is awful

What the fuck possessed him to have Ainz and the elves just sitting in a forest doing fuck all for 80% of both of the most recent volumes is beyond me. Especially when the next 2 volumes are the one he wants to end on.

I have no real faith that the ending is going to be satisfying at this point. I hope it is but I know better. I cannot believe he had the audacity to release the 2 worst volumes to of the series and then say "oh yeah by the way the next two are the last ones" If the elf shit was contained to one volume it would have been much more bearable.

Fall of the Kingdom at least had more nuggets of cool or funny stuff sprinkled throughout even if a lot of it felt rushed as fuck.
For the elf stuff you could have condensed it into one book and cut out 99% of the elves except for the very beginning and end and the bit about how Aura and Mare were misinterpreting something Ainz said as him saying to keep an eye on Albedo and everything still comes together. So many wasted fucking pages in 15 and 16, and only the gags at the beginning before they left and were in the cafeteria were any funny.
The worst part is the absolute fucking drought that has happened afterwards too.

The first time I read it I didn't like the lizard arc much but I like it now. The lizards are good even, I dare say.
It is funny though how Aura basically still doesn't have her own arc.
Even Mare got a couple mini ones, Aura has basically not had one.
These books were like reading a couple decent ideas and then having to physically read all of his writer's block
