You know, the fact that your mind instantly went to this with no prompting tells me that you don't actually care about the characters at all and only about specific story beats that validate your beliefs
I don't care who Asuka ends up with, I care about the fact that her character was completely assassinated and treated with contempt for a plot twist that didn't even change anything or matter at all
In fact, all the accusations you fling, about Asuka being an object of desire instead of a person, are way more true of her rebuild incarnation than of the original, look at OP's webm for god's sake
She went from a complex, multifaceted character to a cardboard cutout with her entire personality replaced with that of a generic tsundere archetype
She lost most of her inconvenient faults, like her excessive combativeness and her infatuation with Kaji, all in the service of being a better waifu character, she even had that whole embarrassing cooking sequence about learning to be le trad wife
The ultimate irony of this whole ordeal is that the original show didn't even have real "ships" or waifubait while rebuild has several half assed ones
