Everything feels boiled down and simplified then amplified, from either manga or original anime versions. Everybody feels like caricatures rather than characters. Deniro gets to shine because he isn't anybody else boiled down, he's just himself. I still think there's some good to Stampede, and the visuals are impressively done. The characters suffer though, and the weight of the story because of it.

Its good but the tone is a lot more consistently depressing. There's barely any levity even in the earlier episodes and thinks get dark fast. Whats there is good, especially the action scenes, but by the end of it you're left with a feeling of wishing there had been a higher episode count so that they could have time to establish Vash's positive personality before throwing him under the suffering bus.

The actions scenes are a mess and frequently almost unreadable but the story is solid and the character drama is great. And obviously it's got a great sense of style the whole time, Nightow's always got that going on. Things generally go a lot higher and farther than anything the TV anime shows. The level of bullshit feats Knives pulls is one of the things Stampede does touch on pretty well.

If you saw the original anime then it pretty much continues after Vash shot a hole in the moon which was halfway into the original anime where the anime splits from the manga. A lot of backstories are different and goes into more details about the world and the Gun Hoe Guns. The 3D anime pretty much spoils a lot of the later half while doing its own thing so nothing is a mystery or a surprise anymore.

Only thing bad I can say about the manga is the art style is very messy in an artistic sort of way, so get ready to play Where's Waldo with body parts.

Anyone that looks up Vash the Stampede online will immediately have it spoiled for them that he's a Plant, not a human.
So there's no reason to replicate the plot twist of the original when you can instead focus on what that means for the character from the start, instead. Which is what the reboot did. Leaning into the psychology of him wanting to be a messiah figure on account of being literally superhuman from the get-go.

After watching Stampede and then re-reading Maximum again, I came away with Stapede is just a terrible version of Trigun.

On it's own, it's a fine show. The narrative, the characters and their development, the animation and choreography, it's all pretty good. But it misses just about everything that made Trigun what it was, down to even the small details. It's a show that would be 100000x better if it wasn't Trigun, because that means comparing it to the old anime and the manga that already exists and it seriously hurts it as a result.

I slept on Stampede for quite a while because I didn't like that they were going the CG route, but actually ended up liking it thoroughly. The Gung Ho Guns are actual characters now, and they actually do shit with Knives instead of him just apparently sitting around in a field of flowers the whole time. It's probably the best usage of CG that I've seen in an anime too.
