Apparently it's because the last season ended on a very intense and long-running arc (the yor cruise arc) and the chappys that followed were more of a cool-down, catch up with side characters, set. So jumping back in in the chronology was going to be filler unless they went very out of order. The family portion was also anime original, which was just done to reintroduce the whole family for the season. It felt sloppy imo and I don't think it was a particularly strong episode, but I'm hopeful for the rest of the season as I have been very satisfied with the show as a whole up until now

This season is going to be a mixed bag. Loid's backstory, which begins today, is very good. Melinda's intro is also pretty good. Hospital chapters are bad. Bus arc is bad, but has its defenders. Sylvia chapter is good. Yor getting pressed on her marriage is good. Wheeler arc is good but has a somewhat controversial ending. There's also a good Damianya chapter that I feel like they'll try to squeeze in somewhere cause it closes a subplot from around the bus arc.
We don't have an episode count yet, but if this is all one cour, expect everything to feel extremely rushed.

That moment, and Yor in general, might be one of the few things in this manga that wasn't immediately sent to the backburner after it happened since it came back up immediately after that arc ended, but it's treading that line because Axeman doesn't write chapters with all the Forgers very often.

They showed off the ED.
It was good. The song is still w/e to me, but paired with the visuals it ends up being a good ED. There has yet to be a bad SxF ED which can't be said for the OPs desu.

The ED also once again makes me wish the source material was more like it. All of the EDs have the same sort of theming in common, but it hardly ever shows up in the actual manga. It's the true bait and switch of this series.

Family development is definitely lacking, but I don't think I'd agree that all other plot elements are on the backburner. The thread with Melinda was sidelined while Axeman did some much needed development on Garden and the Mitera Empire, but then it was immediately back in the spotlight. That led smoothly into the Authen reveal and Anya's identity potentially being at risk.
I don't have an issue with Axeman jumping around if it's with the intent to tie everything together as the manga desperately needs that right now. I guess we'll see what this thread with Henderson ends up being, but Eden has links to both Desmond and the Mitera Empire and if Henderson is going to be used to explore those, I'm down with it.

I haven't checked the lyrics for the new song yet, but Yor did get a music video for herself that told the story of an Assassin being unable to kill her beloved who was her target, and the lyrics were tailor-made for her. It was just the visuals being all cutesy family that didn't match it. I'd say that's an alright trade off.

I was under the impression that it was supposed to be scary and he just didn't do a good job of it. He went through the trouble of explaining her actions scientifically so I don't think it was supposed to be a joke and a lot of her expressions had a horror vibe to them. But it's not consistent and she talks way too much for it to work.
I think the art style in this manga also just doesn't lend well to horror even though Axeman has done it well in past works. There are a couple times I'm pretty sure Yor was meant to look deranged but she just looks mad.

To be fair Yor was holding back and fighting defensively until Hemlock said he was going to kill her family, at which point she went berserk. And even then he still had the sword, which gave him a lot of reach, which she couldn’t easily counter.

I don't disagree that Yor has an advantage in most match-ups, even against multiple opponents. But other Garden operatives aren't most opponents. We know that Hemlock is at least comparable to Yor, even if he's inferior. If she's going even 80% against him and then you add a second Hemlock to the fight, she's going to lose.
I think Yor could probably beat Hemlock and Fiona and possibly even Hemlock and no-preptime Loid, but I don't know about Hemlock and Thistle or Hemlock and McMahon. God forbid Hemlock and Shopkeeper.

Old Man Sigmund Authen from next door knows Anya is test subject 007, which means he likely knows she’s a telepath, and Donovan seems to be involved in some way.

Damnian, Anya and their friends explored an abandoned building on Eden campus reputed to be haunted and it’s implied Anya may have read a ghost’s mind.

Also Henderson is likely getting fired.

No, Anya has known that her parents are putting on an act to others and they know she's aware of it, too; it's why Loid refers to her as "Yor" to Anya instead of something like "Mama" or "your mother". Same with Yor calling him "Loid" to Anya as well. It's also why she sometimes asks them if they're flirting or not. They don't pretend to be in love for her because from the get go they all understood that they started living together to get Anya into school.

Yeah, it feels hollow when Handler scolds Nightfall afterward for what she did when she also has to simultaneously acknowledge that if she hadn't then the mission wouldn't have succeeded. That was extended from the short page of traps she got in the manga; a lot of that wasn't there originally. I'm referring to how important the family aspect is in all the promo material despite the source material lacking that kind of content. The image of this series is that family friendly feel good aspect.
The anime OPs and EDs are the perfect example of this problem. Those scenes of the Forgers spending time together are not what this manga is about.
Axeman is less guilty of presenting that kind of content as the face of the series compared to third party materials but he too baits the audience with it.

People pick up the manga/anime because of that initial premise and have to sit through droughts to get their one chapter every 2 years. In that way I don't think what the audience is asking for is unreasonable. Especially not when Axeman is guilty of pandering to the idols he obsesses over and writing chapters for them. Henderson getting fired would essentially write him out of the story as well. It'd be an odd choice to remove him from the only place he appears when he has no backup. Like is he going to get fired and then placed elsewhere where none of the main characters will interact with him anymore? Is it going to be revealed he has shady connections or something and make him more than just a teacher? Instead of just making a new character for that shady connection? Doesn't make much sense to do that to him imo.
