They were able to turn the tide by enjoying fighting together and turning the puke into a gag instead of being miserable and disgusted. It's basically a fight between suffering and joy. So Takauji needs to do something to make them despair.

There's no way this isn't intentional. Matsui is exploiting manga being black and white to slip blatant porn panels into WSJ. And with the way he is, you just know he was planning to do this from the start. What a hero. I wonder how his editor feels about all of this.
I also appreciate him being so committed to the gag that he bothered to do characterization via vomit fight. Tokiyuki dribbling it into his hand to throw suits him perfectly.

Tokiyuki is "sexist". At least in the sense that he treats girls and women differently from boys and men. Like when he white knighted for Mima in Kyo or was thinking about suitors for Ayako.
He's protective of all of his retainers. But as an old fashioned country samurai, he's more protective of the women. And he also wanted a fight with the boys.

I think this is part of the reason WSJ is struggling to get new, decent series off the ground. It's so cutthroat and axe happy now that these sorts of calculated dips are only possible for veteran mangaka or well established series. I think there's a decent chance there will be another one. Tokiyuki hasn't even started running away yet, there was some foreshadowing about them playing tag together, and there's precedent for characters in different states of mind to get a new tag page which is very likely with the fluctuating state of Takauji's demon.
