I think we'll start getting way more 3D animations in about 10 years. I mean 3D for 3D's sake, not 3D attempting to mimic 2D and used only when they think they can get away with it. Right now we're incubating a very strong core of 3D professionals who understand shaders, shape keys, and other important animation tricks to a degree that rivals Disney's understanding of 2D animation during the renaissance era. We just need these people to advance past their entry-level positions.
2D animation is completely dead though. Nobody is going to have the motor skills necessary to even draw on tablets pretty soon, let alone understand and replicate the techniques perfected during the 2D animation golden age. There'll probably always be someone in a third world nation you can contract real 2D animation work out to, because drawing is such an accessible art, but computers are just going to keep becoming more and more accessible.
